Sifu Mohammed Akhtar began his martial arts training in 1988, studying Tai Chi Chuan. Then, in 1989, he visited the Midlands Wing Chun Kuen headquarters and began studying Wing Chun under Sifu Shaun Rawcliffe. Since then Sifu Akhtar has regularly attended classes and private lessons. In addition he has attended many seminars over the years given by his teacher, Sifu Rawcliffe and by his SiGung, Ip Chun. Sifu Akhtar is highly dedicated to his Wing Chun training and as part of his desire to continue his development he accompanied his teacher to Hong Kong in August 2004, 2007 and again in 2010 each time for three weeks to train with his SiGung and his Sifu's Kung Fu brothers. Training took place daily at the Ving Tsun Athletic Association and on Sunday evenings in Shatin.

During the 2004 Hong Trip a special seminar was given by SiGung Ip Chun at the City University of Hong Kong to celebrate his 80th birthday, which was attended by over 100 students. At the end of the seminar Sifu Akhtar was honoured with a commemorative pendant for his school.
